Poverty is a major social evil as it gives rise to further problems of malnutrition, illiteracy, unemployment and unhygeinic living conditions. There have been various schemes to help the below poverty line(BPL) families but still a huge part of the world's population struggle everyday for their survival.
I agree with what Barkha, another blogger, who in her blog post talks about how poverty forces the unprivileged to steal and beg. They have no money to eat, no clothes to wear be it the scorching heat of the summers or the chilling winters, no place to live in. They are deprived of the basic facilities because they cannot afford them.
Their children are the worst sufferers, they cannot go to school, they do not get proper care and attention, they hardly get a meal per day. All these conditions forces them to work as child labourers and they live a life of complete dissatisfaction as they really can't do anything to change their life even if they want to.
Can you imagine how miserable it is to live a such a life?
It is a challenge to live through each day but they stilll have hope that things would change for them. Soon there would be a time when they will have all they are being deprived of, atleast in terms of health, education and better living conditions.
But are we supporting or helping them? Are we there to make sure their hopes and dreams shape into reality?
Maybe. I am not so sure of the answer.
What I have seen is that everybody agrees that poverty should be eradicated but nobody talks about how it should be done, infact serious efforts cannot be seen.
In her blog Barkha has requested each one of us to support and participate in the development goals of the United Nations, where poverty eradication is one of the major development goal.
We have to support United Nations in order to help these people as they are an important part of our society.
Please I request my readers to pass on my message and take this issue seriously.
Also, in this blog I will not tell you what you should do or should not do but I want you to decide yourself how you want to support and participate in this cause. Even if it is something small, it will be a huge help to the people in need.
And remember we have to help so that they keep on dreaming and hoping for better and good things.
