My fear.

Thursday, 9th December, 2010.

I had planned that I would write this blog on some interesting topic but then I changed my mind. I know sometimes it is so easy to change your mind: P
A few friends of mine do it all the time..haha..sorry..but its true!
I think, today their symptoms were transferred to me.:O
So, in this blog I am going to talk about something serious. Now please don’t stop reading. It’s not that serious but it is something which I feel like sharing.
I am referring to some changes which are about to take place in my life.
My college life is about to get over, which is very sad :(
I am going to miss my teachers who have been fantastic both in terms of teaching and encouraging us and most importantly I am going to miss the fun of being with friends.
I loved being with my friends even if it was the most boring lecture.
I remember my cousins telling me that college is the best phase of everybody’s life, nothing can be better than college days. I can so much relate to what they said as I miss my previous college and friends really badly but I don’t want to go through that feeling again. :(
Soon we all will be interning in different places.
I have no idea about where am I going to intern but all I know right now is that we all will get separated and then we will have to work really hard. We won’t get much time to be together and have fun; even meeting each other would be difficult.
I am sure we will have make friends there too but the freedom, fun, and enjoyment we have here will be impossible after we start working. The field which we all have chosen will make us into complete workaholics! Pheww!
I want to stay in this phase!
I know that is not possible as we have to move on with time. And yes, I also want to see myself in a place where I have always imagined being. I want to learn as much as I can and be independent. I have always wanted to experience that feeling of being independent. Now, I am moving closer to it but still I am going to miss my college life.
Now I think I should stop thinking about future or I will not be able to enjoy the last few days of my college. I want to make the most of these days so that I can always keep such moments with me.
After giving this a thought, I will stop thinking and will make sure that I have a great time in Pondicherry where we are going together as a college on this 16th.
I hope I get over with my fears and not allow myself to think so much that I miss the present.
I am relieved as by the end of this blog as I have made up my mind of enjoying the present and not thinking about my future. I will move with time.
Please feel free to express yourself. I would love to know if there are many people who think like me or if some people have different way of looking at this.
Thanks :)

Winter Killings

While I was reading today's newspaper, I came across this news about two men who were found dead in Chandni Chowk due to extreme cold weather.
Since a week, the temperature at night has gone down to 10 degree Celsius. This makes it really difficult for the homeless and poor as they do not have warm clothes or a place to live in. They have no option than to sleep on pavements and roadsides.
They already suffer from poor health conditions as a result of which they are an easy target in this cold weather.
The number of homeless people have risen after the Commonwealth Games as many slums were demolished to clean the city for the International event.
The worst thing according to me is the indifferent attitude of the government. The government is completely oblivious to their existence.
The government is relaxed thinking that it is enough on their part to open 64 night shelters for the homeless.
But let me remind them that these night shelters can accomodate only 10,000 but the number of homeless people in the city is estimated to be 160,000.

I want to request the government to please help the homeless as they themselves can't afford anything on their own.  Please save them from this cold weather by helping them all find a place in the night shelters which have been brought to existence to protect them. It is the government's duty to help all people, irrespective of their class and make sure they have a decent standard of living.

Green Drive

Tuesday, 7th December, 2010.

If we talk about greenery then Greater Noida tops among all the National Capital Region towns (NCR), including Delhi. Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has planned to plant 10 lakh trees by March 2011.
Till now, they have planted 5 lakh trees along the roads and parks in the city. This plan has witnessed active participation by residents of various resident welfare associations and students of different colleges. The GNIDA teams have supervised and assisted people in taking proper care of these plants.
I really find it amazing.
I am happy to see that a city has taken up the initiative to save our environment and is on track with its plan.
We being the responsible citizens are not able to control pollution as we can't do without cars, aerosols, cutting trees, smoking and various other things that cause pollution. I know many people want to but untimately, we are unable to do so.

But, if we are not able reduce pollution atleast we can try and plant more trees so that the damage we do everyday to our environment can be balanced.
Every city should get inspired by this brilliant plan started by the GNIDA and should try and encourage the people of their city to work towards saving our environment. It is really needed, atleast for the sake of our future generation!
This green drive has seen a good start and I hope that Greater Noida sets a benchmark for other cities by successfully planting the 10 lakhs trees.

She has inspired many.

Monday, 6th December,2010.

The 30- year old BPO girl who was abducted from Dhaula Kuan and gangraped on 24th November has become an idol for many women. Her courage and fortitude has actually inspired a number of Indian women. After going through this trauma she has not given up, she wants to punish her culprits in the most severe way possible.
Other women are amazed to see her courage as usually in our society girls are scared to fight for themselves or their voices are suppressed. But in this case nothing can stop the Manipur girl from punishing these insane men.
I want to salute her courage. If girls show this amount of courage then I am pretty sure that men would think twice of committing such disgraceful and shameful acts.
Also, shame on men who actually have no morals, values and humanity left in them.

Please Quit Smoking..

Sunday, 5th December, 2010.

A US study has revealed that smoking cannabis increases the risk of cancer by suppresing our immune system. It has been found that the active compunds in cannabis suppress immune responses in our body and promote cancer growth.
So people who smoke a lot here is a warning for you.
A  2002 report by the the British Lung Foundation estimated that three to four cannabis cigarettes a day were associated with the same amount of damage to the lungs as 20 or more tobacco cigarettes a day.
Compared to non smokers men who smoke have 23 times higher chances of having lung cancer and women who smoke have 13 times higher chances. Smoking causes 80% and 90% cancer deaths in women and men respectively.
Also, in 2003, 171900 new cases of lung cancer occured and approximately 157,200 people died from lung cancer.
So, by giving up smoking cannabis, tobacco, cigarettes or cigars we can prevent cancer and other harmful effects caused by them.
Please I request all those who smoke to atleast try giving up this habit.
Thanks :)

Keep them warm by helping them :)

Saturday, 4th December, 2010.

It's winter time. I love this season of the year.
The thing I like the most is that we get to wear woolen clothes of various colours and matching stoles or mufflers in this season.
It is getting colder day by day but I am loving it.
In this blog, I want to request my readers to help the stray animals outside or around their houses. I love animals especially dogs but I have no pet at my place because my mom thinks that I don't have enough time to look after them and spend time with them. Also, she is scared of dogs :P
But still I make sure I look after the stray dogs outside my house in this chilling winter season. I feed them with some biscuits, chapattis and dry food items as empty stomach makes one prone to catching cold in the winters.

Also, last winters I had used jute sacks to make sure they could rest and lie on them in the cold weather. I will be doing the same this year.
It makes me happy after I do something to help these living beings as they can't speak about their problems or they can't tell us they are hungry.
Even little things like this can bring a sense of satisfaction to you and you will feel happy that apart from being busy with work or studies you are able to help someone.
You can also put empty cardborad boxes and line them with old newspapers or stacks of hay to keep them warm.
Please help them friends and also feel free to post how you feel after helping them :)

We can do it..and we will!

Friday, 3rd December, 2010.

Poverty is a major social evil as it gives rise to further problems of malnutrition, illiteracy, unemployment and unhygeinic living conditions. There have been various schemes to help the below poverty line(BPL) families but still a huge part of the world's population struggle everyday for their survival.
I agree with what Barkha, another blogger, who in her blog post talks about how poverty forces the unprivileged to steal and beg. They have no money to eat, no clothes to wear be it the scorching heat of the summers or the chilling winters, no place to live in. They are deprived of the basic facilities because they cannot afford them.
Their children are the worst sufferers, they cannot go to school, they do not get proper care and attention, they hardly get a meal per day. All these conditions forces them to work as child labourers and they live a life of complete dissatisfaction as they really can't do anything to change their life even if they want to.
Can you imagine how miserable it is to live a such a life?
It is a challenge to live through each day but they stilll have hope that things would change for them. Soon there would be a time when they will have all they are being deprived of, atleast in terms of health, education and better living conditions.
But are we supporting or helping them? Are we there to make sure their hopes and dreams shape into reality?
Maybe. I am not so sure of the answer.
What I have seen is that everybody agrees that poverty should be eradicated but nobody talks about how it should be done, infact serious efforts cannot be seen.
In her blog Barkha has requested each one of us to support and participate in the development goals of the United Nations, where poverty eradication is one of the major development goal.
We have to support United Nations in order to help these people as they are an important part of our society.
Please I request my readers to pass on my message and take this issue seriously.
Also, in this blog I will not tell you what you should do or should not do but I want you to decide yourself how you want to support and participate in this cause. Even if it is something small, it will be a huge help to the people in need.

And remember we have to help so that they keep on dreaming and hoping for better and good things.
Good luck!

Dowry should exist no more!!

Monday, 29th November, 2010

I strongly agree with Barkha Dhar's blog post which raises a lot of questions in our modern Indian society. We as a society have achieved a lot and are still progressing but there are many Indian girls who are tortured and ill-treated for dowry reasons.
In our society, daughters are treated as 'parayadhan' and their status in the marital homes depend on the amount of dowry they bring into the new family.
A lot has changed in our society, education of girls is one of those changes but we can hardly see any change in the mentalities of people when it comes to treating women. Nobody is bothered about how much a girl is educated, what family background she comes from or what values have been instilled in her but people are only interested in how much money she can bring along with her.

It is a disgrace to our modern society.
Why have people given up humanity? How can they treat another human being like this?
My friend Barkha has rightly mentioned in her blog that people involved in such shameful acts should not forget that the way they treat someone else's daughter their own daughter could be experience the same ill- treatment.
Why nobody thinks about the girl who goes through all this pain and suffering? Is this the kind of life she expects after being happily married?
No. Absolutely not.

I too request my readers to please pass on this message to discourage and eliminate the evil of 'dowry' from our society so that all girls get the respect and life they deserve as human beings.

This is simply cute!

Sunday, 28th November, 2010.

I came across this blog post where the blogger talks about my favourite subject, headbands.I always keep looking in for nice and simple headbands but I never realized that I could actually make them using stuff at my house. Also, I don't have to buy anything or spend money on my new and beautiful headband.
Cool..!
I just loved the new 'lauren headband' it is so cute, elegant and different. I like the way she has given the details, steps and measurements for making one myself. The best thing about it is that it is a product of her imagination and creativity.
Honestly, I don't think I can come up with such an idea.
Now, all I need is to make one and wear them to make my hair look neat and attractive.
Thanks for the lovely tutorial friend :)

The Police walas!!

Sunday, November 28, 2010.

I just went out with mom and dad to enjoy some chicken rolls and momos at a roadside stall nearby my place. It is always fun to go out with family even for a short while.
While we were enjoying our food we suddenly saw two tall policemen approaching the stalls and they actually threw all the eatables and food on the ground.
I was amazed as I had witnessed this for the first time. I had always heard about the 'police walas' being nasty but I saw them behave so irrationally for the first time.
They did this because the stalls were not supposed to be at the roadside.I think, instead of being so harsh they could have just told the stall vendors to move the stalls.
I felt really bad and could see how miserable the stall owners looked. Firstly, the government does nothing to help them find a proper legal place. Secondly, when they show the courage to work instead of resorting to begging or other easy ways they are not encouraged by anyone.
I request the policemen and other people to please treat them as humans and give the respect they deserve as human beings, so what if they belong to the poor section of the society.

Air pollution on an increase.

Sunday, 28 November, 2010.

Many hospitals in the city have reported a hike in respiratory diseases like asthma and bronchitis. This is due to the increase in the pollution levels. Smoke from factories, soil dust and vehicular emissions have led to a sharp increase in air pollution.
It was reported that the Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM)and the Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter(RSPM) have been found to be higher than the standard which causes respiratory ailments. These particulates are very small and they enter deep into the respiratory tract of human beings.
I think,we can help reduce such problems by controlling pollution at an individual level. We can walk for short distances instead of taking our cars or vehicles and should turn off the car engines while waiting at the red lights. We can go in for car pooling and should make sure we promote afforestation.
If you guys have any other ways to reduce air pollution please feel free to post and pass on this message.
I am sure with our honest efforts we will bring a good change for our planet :)

Men just can't help it..lol!

Saturday, 27th November, 2010.

You must be wondering why do I write so much about metros.
Well, I travel so much in the metro that I can't stop thinking about it :P
Here's the most important thing I want to share.
On my way in the metro I see a lot of men entering the coach reserved for ladies very casually. The ladies always have to tell them that the coach is only for women.
I too have had the privilege to pass on this information :P
But, the men in Delhi just can't understand. We, still see them entering the women's coach.
Two days back I had a terrible experience while on my way to Rajiv Chowk. I was amazed to see that men were entering the women's coach in order to get down at the next stop conveniently and they were seen pushing and squabbling in the best possible way.
In doing so, they had made it difficult for the women to get down as the whole last section of the coach was occupied by these insensible men!
Even on repeated reminders from all the ladies they did not budge from their positions.
I shouldn't be saying this but I really want to, I was really happy when I saw that yesterday men were  punished for travelling in the women's coach :P

There were these women constables travelling without their regular uniform, who red-handedly caught men in the ladies coach and thrashed them for not taking the metro rules seriously!
They were also asked to do sit-ups which must have reminded them of their school punishments. Lol:)
I just hope this drive men will learn a lesson that metro police no longer has the 'chalta hai' attitude towards the metro rules ;)

The deadly Endosulfan.

Wednesday, November 24, 2010
The extensive spraying of endosulfan, an insecticide, has caused 200 cancer deaths in Kasargode in Kerala in the past eight years. The number of people suffering from endosulfan poisoning in the six villages of Kerala has gone up to 2,210.
Isn't it shocking?
You will be further surprised when I will tell you that the Kerala government had imposed a ban on the use of this chemical in 2005 but the poor villagers continue to suffer as it is being smuggled into the state.
Endosulfan acts as an endocrine disruptor, causing both reproductive and development damage in humans. It also causes cancer and deformities in neo-natal babies.
This insecticide is very popular among farmers because of its effectiveness. India is the world’s largest consumer of this insecticide.
The government is doing nothing to stop the use of this harmful chemical even after the disastrous effect it has on these villagers.
To make the situation worse, India opposed the ban of this insecticide at the Stockholm Convention of the Persistent Organic Review Committee in Geneva last month.
The Department of Agriculuture said that several committees had reviewed the experience with endosulfan and had experienced that its use could be continued.
But the endosulfan activists and the villagers strongly believe that its use has made their lives dismal.
I strongly feel that any profit which is at the cost of people's lives is of no use or celebration. The government should ban the use of this insecticide and help improve the living conditions of these villagers.
The government should realize that it is the prime and foremost duty of every country to protect the lives of its citizens and all profits or development plans come later.

HAPPY DIWALI !!!

6th November, 2010.

Happy Diwali to everyone!!!!!!
I know I should have written this blog yesterday but I was too busy enjoying and decorating my house with flowers, rangoli, diyas and candles. It was so much fun. Also, meeting friends and relatives is something we all look forward to. I am sure you must have done the same too.

It was beautiful to see the ways in which people had decorated their houses and how the light of the diyas enhanced the look.
But I noticed some change and I want to share it in this blog. I saw that instead of diyas, people have and continously are switching to candles and more fancy lights. The natural light of the 'diyas' has been taken over by the light of the candles. People think that candles are easy to use and handle as compared to the traditional 'diyas'.
This is sad as the festivals are a part of our tradition and should be celebrated in their natural way. The light of diwali is the natural light of 'diya'. And the 'diyas' are an integral part of Diwali.

I think it would be a lovely idea to light up your houses only with the light of the 'diyas'. I do agree that it requires a little more effort but I feel sometimes it is best to stay natural. By doing this we will make sure that we are keeping the essence of our festivals alive and we are not adding any artificial touch to them.
Let me know what you feel about this, I would love to know :)

Delhi back to its old ways.

6th November, 2010.

Today while flipping through the newspaper, I saw an article where Delhiites complained about the cleanliness and sanitation of Delhi after the Commonwealth Games. One of the residents said that the city was kept clean during the Games which indicates that it is possible to maintain the same high standards of sanitation.

I think he is right. If the civic agencies act responsibly then we can maintain the high standards of our city. Instead the agencies prefer sticking to their old ways and attitudes. The sanitation facilities which were efficient during the Games can no longer be seen now. Now, the garbage-free areas have been dumped with all the refuse and waste in the best possible manner and they continue to stink for several days.
The mechanical sweepers deployed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) during the Games no longer exist. Only 2 machines were functional during the Games instead of 12. But the MCD has promised that these machines will be in function from next year onwards.

Also, the dustbins which were placed in the city have now vanished.

Now, it is totally on the civic agencies to decide and make a choice whether they want to switch to their old ways and continue to procastinate things or they want to maintain and enhance the changes that have been a gift to Delhi because of the Games.

Cheers to our achievement.

Monday, 25th October, 2010.

There has been a sharp decrease in the Polio cases in India as reported by the World Health Organisation. Only 39 cases have been reported this year in comparison to 498 cases last year.

I think it is commendable. The immunisation campaigns have been really successful and their efforts can be seen in the form of such fantastic results.
It shows the nation's commitment to eradicate this terrible disease from India.
It is an achievement for India as India, together with Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan, is one of the four polio-endemic countries left in the world.
Type 2 polio virus has been eradicated and type 1 is soon to be eradicated. In the states which have reported the maximum cases of Polio are able to fight out this deadly disease. In Bihar the polio cases have gone down to 9 from 117 last year and in Uttar Pradesh the cases have gone down to 10 from 569.

The Indian Polio Eradication is one of the most successful public health initiatives in history.
I would like to congratulate the country and its people on this success and specially Amitabh Bachchan who has helped create more awareness about Polio through his campaigns and has convinced people to treat this as most important.
Cheers to India's efforts!

Another disgraceful act.

Sunday, 24th October, 2010.

I was totally disgusted to read about a  9-year-old girl being molested by her teacher, who gave her therapies for brain development. The girl resides in Shahdara, East Delhi and it was last week when she disclosed this tale of horror to her mother.
I have already raised this issue in my earlier blog post but I could not stop myself to write about another such incident.

How can men do this to such little girls?
They fail to understand that such shameful actions can have such adverse effect on the minds of young girls.Such men lack morals and values and do not even think twice of their actions.
This little girl was in complete shock for over a month and was not even talking to anyone. This is the extent to which they are affected. The damage is beyond repair. They even go into depression which further leads to a feeling of self-rejection and self-hatred.

I think men should atleast inculcate some morals and sensitivity if they have lost them. They should understand that such shameful acts show their lack of respect towards the opposite gender.

Disgraceful!

Tuesday, 19th October, 2010.

I was disgusted when I read that a 30-yr-old woman had been
raped by a doctor in the ICU of Lotus Hospital in Mumbai. To make it worse he had shown her obscene clips and also made a recording of her.
The hospital instead of standing for the right thing is trying to cover up the incident and claming that the lady has mental problems.
This so sick and disgusting. They should punish the doctor who was supposed to take care of the ill woman and not do something immoral and inhuman. It is a heinous and shameful act!
Another woman was molested by a doctor in Malviya Nagar in New Delhi. The doctor has been arrested and terminated and I hope he gets the punishment he deserves for being so unethical.

A third case which came to my notice in today's newspaper was about a 26-yr-old woman who was molested by her father-in- law. I cannot believe this. This is so disgraceful, it is horrifying to see that men can go down to such levels and cannot treat women with respect.

It is the patriarchal mindset that wants women to be objects and under the control of men. They treat women as sex-objects and cannot treat them with dignity and respect. I feel this is atrocious and unforgivable.
In the year 2008, 20,000 rape cases were reported and every hour there are atleast 20 crimes committed against women across the country.
Earlier women thought that places outside their houses for instance the work places or parties were not safe. Unfortunately, now their own houses and the hospitals which are places of trust, security and protection no longer fulfill their role.
All this is extremely disturbing and terrible.
I think men should learn to respect women and should mend their ways!

If you need some INSPIRATION.

Sunday, 10th October, 2010.

I was actually able to look at myself with different eyes after I saw this video of Nick Vujicic, a man without limbs. Yes, you read it right. This man in the video has no limbs yet he loves living life and is happy.
He likes swimming, golfing, fishing and believes that life has no limits. He thinks human spirit is capable of handling so much more than we realize it actually can.

He has no complains and is thankful for all he has.Wow, I was amazed when I saw his attitude towards life. He is a living inspiration for all of us.

If I look at myself, I am always complaining for something or the other that I don't have, things that go wrong with me, any problem at home, anything not going according to my wish or any silly thing I can complain about. After watching this video I found that I was so lucky to have a perfect body, where I can do everything and anything, all on my own without depending on anyone. But,I am not thankful as most of the time I am complaining and asking for more comfortable things and privileges.

I guess most of us miss being grateful and thankful for whatever we have and we are too busy thinking of any new reason to complain. We are so much busy that we hardly live LIFE.We give up too easily when we have to face challenges or strive for things. We get disappointed and discouraged very easily.
But Nick says: "If I fail, I try again, and again and again.."

It is so nice to see a man with so much confidence and positivity to stand up and talk to people about his life and inspire them who have no physical deformity but are people who are ungrateful and full of negativity.
Don't you think it's always the other way round. We never see people like him talking to us with that confidence, telling us to face things strongly, to have faith in ourselves and to love living life.
But he is all there to inspire our minds and remind us that life is so much more than just complaining and being unhappy.
I am sure he will force you to think and look at yourself differently.
Cheers to his positive attitude and outlook towards life!

Digital Natives.

Monday, 27th September, 2010.

Interestingly, a survey conducted across 10 major Indian cities revealed that out of 1,500 users over half of them spend around five hours a day on the Internet. Among them 52 per cent of the users fall in the age group of 8-11 years.
http://epaper.hindustantimes.com/PUBLICATIONS/HT/HD/2010/09/27/ArticleHtmls/NET-RESULT-Cyber-addiction-peril-stalks-urban-children-27092010001017.shtml?Mode=1

According to a survey the new generation is being referred to as the "Digital Natives", because they are not only growing up in this new world but also they are well aware of its rules, values and language.
http://www.cis-india.org/research/dn/uploads/dnrep1

There has been an excessive increase in its usage because of the online games, social networking, home-work, blogging, etc.
I think its so true. After coming back from college I spent most of my time either on facebook or uploading my home work online.

The present generation has become addicted to this online world and now it is a part of their daily routine. We make sure we keep updating our presence there. We have a new world which takes us away from our families, the real world for us, yes our families are the most important part of our lives.
But still we don't give it much thought and prefer to stay online be it a working day or a holiday. Instant music, games, connection with friends, videos all seem so much fun. Through the internet people are dicovering and inventing new ways to share relevant knowledge with blinding speed.
Even after writing this blog, I still spend almost the same amount of time online as it takes me away from the difficult situations in my real life. It offers an escape and makes me feel secure as I am connected to a larger world through it. I also feel better sharing my thoughts and feelings through my blogs or with friends who I cannot reach without using this technology, I cannot make calls everyday:(
Yes, I accept that I have a new world around me which is all about the internet and it is new for many of others too but the change after writing this blog is that I make sure that I spend some quality time with my family :)

The Dowry Evil.

Monday, 27 September, 2010.
A 30- year old woman, set on fire.

Shruti Khullar, wife of an Air Force personnel and resident of Ghaziabad was burnt to death by her parents-in-law this saturday afternoon. She was immediately rushed to Safdardung Hospital in Delhi where she succumbed to her injuries.
http://epaper.hindustantimes.com/PUBLICATIONS/HT/HD/2010/09/27/ArticleHtmls/WOMAN-SET-ON-FIRE;-IN-LAWS-UNDER-COPS-27092010005003.shtml?Mode=1

This is just another story of an Indian girl who was brutally killed by her own family members.

According to Indian Police, every year it receives over 2,500 reports of bride-burning , while human rights organizations in Pakistan report over 300 deaths per year. The Indian National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) reports that there were about 8172 dowry death cases registered in India in 2008. Incidents of dowry deaths during the year 2008 (8172) have increased by 14.4 per cent over 1998 level (7146).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dowry_death

Everyone is aware of the increasing number of dowry deaths, which are a punishable offence, yet the custom of dowry goes unquestioned.

Still there are families who do not accept their own daughter-in-laws as a part of their family. They have to pay a price in order to make a place for themselves in the new family and their status in the marital homes depends on the amount of dowry they bring in.

I find this strange and shocking and let me share it with you.
The Dowry Prohibition Act of 1961, was amended in 1984 , with few changes being made in it. A limit was set on the amount of dowry being demanded. But dowry itself was not banned.

I think we need to question the existence of such social evils which are prevalent in our society since ages. But just thinking won't help. We need to wipe them out or they would take over our society and cause havoc.

Another Delhi Metro news!

Monday, 27th September, 2010.

U must be wondering why am I writing so much about Delhi Metro. It is simply because I am in love with it. I have realized that it's the best gift to the people staying in Delhi and closeby. It has made lives convenient and easy.

If it was not there I wouldn't be reaching my college on time [atleast I reach college ;)] everyday which would have been really difficult otherwise.

Now here's the news I read today.

Women coach in Metro trains.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will place stickers on platforms to mark the entry to the coach.

Wow, its a splendid news for me.Now I won't be standing all the way to my college or atleast I won't be giving looks to male passengers who occupy the seats reserved for ladies. I don't mind standing but it is difficult to be like that for 1 hour 30 minutes! phewww!

Also, for me and also most of the girls travelling its not comfortable to stand with all men around you. The train is overcrowded and there is hardly any space top move, you just have to stick to the space which is occupied by your legs and stay like that till the time people get down at their particular station.

Thanks for this wonderful news. I am looking forward to this new change.I will soon share my experience of travelling in a coach 'specially' reserved for girls! It makes you enjoy the most of such special priveleges. Isn't it fun?

CWG Break.

Sunday, 26th September, 2010.

Yippee…Hurray...I am so happy and excited. I am so much looking forward to a break from studies during the CWGs. Our college and many other schools, colleges in Delhi and NCR will close during the International Event.

I was thrilled to read this news in today's Hindustan Times.

After studying, meeting deadlines, working on essays and stories for days, we finally get some time to relax, enjoy and most importantly sleep like dead people for hours.:)
I am sure all students are looking forward to this fantastic break of the year. Here I give special reference to my friends and classmates. I guess they can very well understand and relate to my happiness and excitement.

We have been working like crazy people almost every day of the week. This break seems so much fun. I hope it goes like that and we are not overburdened with home work and assignments. That would spoil the fervour and excitement!

I have my fingers crossed for any such bad news and am eagerly waiting for my ‘chuttiyan’ to start.:))
What about you guys?

Leonardo DiCaprio interested.

Sunday, 26 September, 2010.
Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio expressed his interest in the cause of tiger conservation to the Indian Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh.
Leonardo wants to visit India within a few months and help create awareness and sensitize people about the condition of our national wildlife, the tiger.
The Minister is happy and said “DiCaprio’s involvement will strengthen India’s efforts” to save the tigers.
It is good, but I feel, why do we need celebrities to strengthen our efforts? It’s appreciable that even Hollywood actors are sensitive to such universal causes and are trying to be a part of them just as Bollywood actors do. Still, the question is do we need famous people to stand for any universal or crucial cause so that they are taken seriously by people? Do we need a driving force to make us work for our environment, wildlife or Earth? Are we not sensitive and responsible enough?
So let’s try and prove it that we can as individuals work to save our environment, our wildlife and our planet.

No value for Life!

Saturday,25th September, 2010

Seven elephants were crushed to death by a high- speed train in the Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal. The Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh has blamed Mamata Banerjee, the Railway Minister, for this hapless incident.
Mamata Banerjee clarified that “this unfortunate incident took place in an area other than the identified elephant corridor. I have asked the Railway Board to work out a joint strategy with the Environment Minister to prevent such incidents.”
Even after the blame game is over and assurances are given that strategies will be made to ensure such incidents won’t happen, I am still doubtful about everything they plan or say. I don’t think there would be any implementation or preventive measures. The frequency of train accidents have never gone down. When ministers in India are not serious about human lives so how can we take their word when it comes to elephants or any other wildlife? When they are not able to manage things going wrong with the citizens of their country so how can we account on them for anything, even if it is about the country’s wildlife?

Just go Away!

Saturday, 25th September, 2010.

Labourers who were working tirelessly to make Commonwealth Games (CWG) a success have turned out to be the most unimportant people now. The Delhi Police is asking these migrant labourers and daily- wagers to leave the Capital by Monday in order to clean the city for CWG. They have been instructed not to return before the games are over. They live in filthy and unhygienic areas around the streets, flyovers and metro stations.
This is so unfair. How can the government treat them like this? They are the citizens of our country just like you and me. So, why can’t they stay in Delhi? Because they belong to the poorest strata and are never considered equals? Or will they represent a sorry state of our country? Even if they do, is it not the reality? So, why is our country trying to portray an image which is not real?
India is like this where it has poor people living in slums, who work for hours to earn their livelihood and even then they are unable to send their children to school. They live in the dirtiest corners of our cities, as the most neglected section of our society.
The rich have not been asked to change their homes, lifestyle or jobs then why the poor?
They are an integral part of India. The Government does nothing to improve their living conditions or provide them with basic amenities but at least it can treat them with dignity and respect. It can let them live life the ways they want to and help them survive in a world which does not accept them.

A Sigh of Relief

Saturday, 25th September, 2010.

Yes, it was relieving to read that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning to add more coaches to the existing metro trains. According to a DMRC official, “We will introduce 6-coach trains by next year. By 2011, we’ll run 89 such trains.”
The present four- coach train has a carrying capacity of about 1,200 to 1,500. The newly added coaches will be able to carry 600 more passengers per trip. People prefer travelling in Delhi metro as it has connected several areas like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, South, North, East and West parts of Delhi making them reachable to the commuters.
I also prefer travelling through metro. One thing which I do not like about the metro is that it is always overcrowded and often I go standing all my way. The people are always in a hurry and keep pushing each other. At every station people are not bothered whether the train is all full but they make sure that they make space for themselves by hook or by crook. This leads to further chaos and irritation.
I am glad that the DMRC could sense our trouble and has taken step to provide a more comfortable ride to its passengers. But I am still not sure whether the newly added coaches will be a total relief or the ever increasing population will spoil the fun.
