Delhi back to its old ways.

6th November, 2010.

Today while flipping through the newspaper, I saw an article where Delhiites complained about the cleanliness and sanitation of Delhi after the Commonwealth Games. One of the residents said that the city was kept clean during the Games which indicates that it is possible to maintain the same high standards of sanitation.

I think he is right. If the civic agencies act responsibly then we can maintain the high standards of our city. Instead the agencies prefer sticking to their old ways and attitudes. The sanitation facilities which were efficient during the Games can no longer be seen now. Now, the garbage-free areas have been dumped with all the refuse and waste in the best possible manner and they continue to stink for several days.
The mechanical sweepers deployed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) during the Games no longer exist. Only 2 machines were functional during the Games instead of 12. But the MCD has promised that these machines will be in function from next year onwards.

Also, the dustbins which were placed in the city have now vanished.

Now, it is totally on the civic agencies to decide and make a choice whether they want to switch to their old ways and continue to procastinate things or they want to maintain and enhance the changes that have been a gift to Delhi because of the Games.
